About TQ
The seed of Travel Queeries was a short doc. film by Elliat Graney-Saucke called 'Travel Queeries: Queeruption, Barcelona' (2005/20 min). Already friends and collaborative artists with Margaritte Knezek (having made 'Instructional Portuguese Gay Dance Video') they began to explore the idea of making a bigger film about radical queers in Europe/Internationally, keeping the seed name "Travel Queeries."
Elliat moved to Berlin for 6 months in fall 2005 to explore the themes within this community and do some research. There of course was tons of potential, people to interview and things to talk about. She kept in touch with Margaritte via phone and e-mail, brainstorming about the project. They spent 3 months together in Seattle, Spring 2006, prepping for the first summer of production (making postcards, website, building organizational relationships, fundraising, etc). They traveled together filming and interviewing people from different queer scenes/movements for 6 weeks over the summer of '06 (in Manchester/Leeds, London, Berlin and Warsaw).
In fall 2006, while doing post-production for 2006/pre-production for phase 2, 2007 (& working with Amy Mahardy to edit a trailer), they worked out that there should be some more people involved in the production, as Margaritte would be attending The Evergreen State College full time and moving to Olympia. Sid Peterson, a mutual friend (who Elliat had been living with off and on) was asked to join the production. Sid was in the process of finishing up another documentary film project (The Descendants Project), but none the less agreed to join Team TQ.
2007 Production: Winter was spent putting on great fundraising events in Seattle, namely the secret cafe/cabarets. In Spring 2007, Elliat returned to set up the second phase of production/research and in June met with Sid and Margaritte, the rest of Team TQ, in Barcelona, Spain. From there the production continued on to Copenhagen, Belgrade, Milan and Rome to complete the full production schedule (including stops in Queer Festival Copenhagen and Queeruption 10, Vancouver).
Post-Production began Sept. 2007 in Seattle. The film is currently being edited and holding focus group screenings of the rough cut, with a final deadline of Winter 08.
